Be Careful when You Speak–Scripture Spotlight Proverbs 15:4

Our society has a weird relationship with words. On the one hand, we practically trip over ourselves to keep from saying the wrong things. On the other, social media users wield words like a weapon, shredding dissenters. Proverbs 18:21 states that the tongue can bring life or death. That can’t be more true in this world where words can cause job loss, ruin lives, and, sadly, lead to suicide through cyberbullying. What attitude should Christians possess? The Bible repeatedly reminds us to watch our mouths.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be memorizing scriptures that command us to be careful when we speak. I encourage you to not only memorize these verses, but also to examine your words and their affect.

Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4
