A friend invited a group of us to a daily scripture reading challenge recently. I’m really enjoying texting back and forth the things the Holy Spirit is putting on our hearts. A passage from Proverbs 16 hit me hard or “pulled up in my driveway,” as my pastor says. So, I decided to memorize the verses over the next four weeks.

I tend to leap without thinking. I’ll say “yes” to whatever opportunity comes along because I love to help, and I’m a people pleaser. However, while always done with good intentions, saying yes to everything ends up badly. I get overwhelmed trying to do too much. Instead of giving one or two things my complete attention, I’m spread too thin to do anything well. Or I have to back out of projects, leaving people hanging. I’ve had to learn the hard way not to over commit myself. TBH, I have relearn that lesson regularly. This verse is a reminder to pray about everything before saying, “yes.” Even something that seems good, might be the wrong thing for me.
